Audi Q2 Gearbox

Audi Q2 Gearbox Issue

Your Audi Q2 always needs to work properly, and without it, you’d be stuck. What if a warning message appears on your dashboard? It would be a nightmare situation.

Our client had this exact problem with their Q2, and their car would only drive in second gear. Not what you want to happen. They were at risk of causing an accident and their Audi wasn’t working as it should.

Fortunately, our client brought their vehicle to us right away. Our team at Fitch Autos were on hand to quickly diagnose and fix the issue. Thanks to our decades of combined experience, we can work on all Audi models, no matter what the issue.

Problems We Found

Our Audi experts began by test-driving the faulty vehicle to understand the issue the customer was having. We found out straight away that the gearbox issue was present and concluded that more investigation was required.

At Fitch Autos, we possess years of experience, skills, and knowledge to quickly diagnose issues in your vehicle. We have a set 15-step process we use to identify faults across all our customer vehicles.

Once we confirmed the gearbox issue, our team plugged in the advanced diagnostics equipment to note any fault codes.

Fault codes are part of Automotive industry standards and are pivotal when working out what’s wrong with a vehicle.

Our team discovered the following fault code in the Audi Q2:

  • P1735 – Clutch position sensor 1 – electrical fault.

Luckily, our Audi experts knew what to do with this information. They began to dive deeper with a test plan to help quickly get to the root cause and fix the issue.

Understanding The Fault

With a P1735 fault code present, our experts looked to uncover the possible cause of the gearbox fault.

The Audi technical information provides our team with insights into the electrical fault. The clutch position sensor 1 was not functioning properly. This meant that the Audi Q2 gearbox was not engaging fully.

At Fitch Autos, we have the same level of technical information as the main Audi dealerships. Combine this with our expert team and you always get dealership-level care but with better value.

We performed a live data check to make sure the Audi computer was noticing the clutch issue. Again, something that we do above other garages’ level of care.

During the check, the data showed that the clutch issue was present. This means our experts moved on to the next stage which involved testing the wiring to the Transmission Control Module (TCM).

Our Audi technicians found that the wiring was in good condition, and this meant that the issue was within the TCM unit itself.

How We Solved The Gearbox Fault

With a better understanding of the issues within the Audi Q2 gearbox, our team removed the TCM from the gearbox unit for further investigation.

We first needed to drain the transmission fluid. As it is a delicate process, this job should always be performed by a trained professional. Once we completely drained the fluid, we sent the TCM off for repair.

As we waited for the TCM to be repaired, our experts wanted to check the rest of the Audi to see if it was in excellent condition. We also replaced the transmission fluid filter with a genuine Audi part to reduce the chance of any further gearbox issues.

Fitch Autos always aim to use the highest quality and genuine parts during our repairs and servicing. We ensure you get the highest quality repair to maintain its peak performance.

The TCM came back to us in good working condition after refurbishment, therefore we fitted new gaskets and seals and topped up the gearbox with 6L of fresh transmission fluid. Our Audi diagnostic tool then performed a re-learn procedure on the gearbox to make sure the newly fitted TCM was working as it should.

After the fitment, our experts started up the Audi Q2 and got it up to temperature. We retested the gearbox oil level and topped it up with a little more fluid. This made sure that the gearbox was running in the best possible way, otherwise, it’s dangerous to not have the correct levels of transmission fluid.

We drove the Q2 to confirm that our repair was successful and by our thorough analysis, it was working well.

Our client was excited to see their car back in optimum working condition. They were also happy about the cost, as we offer better-than-dealership value whilst maintaining excellent customer service.

Summary

Our client recently took their Audi Q2 into our workshop here at Fitch Autos because their car was failing to change gear. Their Audi was only able to select second gear which made it near-impossible to drive.

Our team who have decades of experience fixing Audis knew what to do next. We found an issue with the Transmission Control Module (TCM).

We sent the faulty part for repair – which most garages wouldn’t do. Instead, they would have replaced the part completely, which sounds wonderful, until the customer is informed of the cost. As we knew the part could be repaired, we saved our client a lot of money.

We refitted the renewed part, installed new seals and gaskets, and performed a retest to make sure the vehicle was back working as it should.

Eureka! Our client’s car was back working like new!

We were pleased to help our troubled client and do it at a better-than-dealer rate.
