VW Golf Wastegate Fault

A recent VW Golf client brought his car to our Brownhills VW garage with an engine warning light and loss of power.
Our client informed us that they had noticed the engine management light was illuminated on their dashboard along with a loss of power. However, these faults were only occurring intermittently.
So work on the VW Golf began right away, starting with the diagnostic evaluation.
Diagnostic Evaluation From Fitch Autos
Once the vehicle was in our VW Garage, we performed a thorough visual inspection. As a result of the inspection, there was nothing obvious that could be causing the engine management light, so we performed a full scan and accessed the supply data to find the cause.
Based on the data, the following fault codes were identified:
- P2B93 00 – Wastegate Position Sensor 1 (Learning Limits Exceeded)
- P25B4 00 – Turbocharger/Supercharger Wastegate 1 (Stuck Closed)
- P25B3 00 – Turbocharger/Supercharger Wastegate 1 (Stuck Open)
Due to our independent status, we have access to all manufacturer guidelines and bulletins, as well as original VW parts for servicing and repairing VWs.
After locating the fault codes, our VW specialist checked the VW bulletins to see if these fault codes were identified as common VW issues. Our repair process is made easier by using bulletins to speed up accurate diagnosis and eliminate guesswork.
Our client’s VW Golf displayed all the same fault codes as VW bulletins. Our expert knowledge of the VW engine and access to the manufacturer’s information enabled us to inspect the Turbocharger Wastegate Actuator rod and confirm considerable corrosion near the connection.
A Turbocharger Wastegate Actuator rod is a component of the turbocharger system that controls the amount of exhaust gas that is diverted away from the turbocharger turbine. This helps to regulate the boost pressure of the turbocharger, which can improve engine performance and efficiency. Corrosion build up will cause the mechanism to be stiff and cause the Wastegate to remain open or closed.
As a result, our VW technicians replaced the actuator rod with the updated part that VW had released in light of this issue.
Upon completing this, basic settings tests were performed on the Turbocharger Wastegate motor as well as confirming the movement was no longer stiff or blocked by the Wastegate while in operation.
Finally, we conducted a road test and confirmed that the VW Golf’s engine management light was no longer illuminated and the fault had been fixed.
